AMC CEO

Tom Moore is a 30-year veteran in the mechanical contracting industry. He earned his expertise working with his father and grandfather, through hands-on field experience, and participating in the management of his family’s business, R.T Moore Mechanical Contractors located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

HISTORY…

Tom Moore has been around the plumbing industry most of his life. His father, R.T. Moore, worked as a master plumber and started the R.T. Moore Company in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1955. Moore helped out around the company on Saturdays and summers, first working in the warehouse with his grandfather. During those early years he learned all about materials and methods. Later, when he was old enough, Moore worked in the field as an installer. He also learned to appreciate and practice of his father’s philosophy of quality workmanship, on time schedule, and providing competitive pricing to their customers.

Moore worked his way up the ranks of the company. In the early 1980s, as Executive Vice President of the R.T. Moore Company, he managed all field production for both plumbing and HVAC in the Indianapolis area. During this time, the company employed over 100 installers and served area contractors in both the residential and commercial markets.

In 1995, Moore revamped the purchasing, warehousing and the material-handling departments of the business based on the concept of, “right product, right price, and right time”. The changes resulted in fill rates that were improved to 99%, as well as cost reductions. Moore’s improvements in productivity and scheduling enabled the company to provide even more competitive pricing to its customers. As a result of these advancements, Moore was placed in control of all field production and operations for the company.

Moore’s role expanded again when he was given responsibility for establishing operations in out of state markets. By 2004, the R.T. Moore Company was successfully installing plumbing and mechanical systems in nine states. In 2005, he established a satellite office and warehouse facility in Sarasota, FL. Today, R.T. Moore maintains a major market share of the residential work in both the Sarasota and Bradenton area, providing service to national and local residential builders, including Centex, Neal Communities, Taylor Woodrow, Levitt and Sons, Bruce Williams, and commercial builders, including W. G. Mills. While Moore was working as COO, the R.T. Moore Company grew to over 250 employees and was installing plumbing and mechanical systems in 14 states.

In 2007, Moore moved from Indiana to Minnesota and established a permanent office and workforce. Constantly looking for ways to grow, he learned about Associated Mechanical Contractors. AMC practiced the same business principals Moore values; excellent workmanship, quality products, meeting deadlines, and outstanding service. Moore believed it would be a good fit, and in 2008 he purchased the company.

Some of the business goals established by Tom Moore are to nurture existing relationships, expand new networks of builders and developers, develop the out-of-state market for commercial and industrial projects, explore new technologies and methods relating to design-build projects, and create new opportunities for Associated Mechanical Contractors. Moore’s expertise in building world-class mechanical infrastructure is mirrored in his ability to build and maintain professional relationships with contractors and developers around the country.

The business principals Moore practices today are the same as those he learned as a young man. Over the years they have served him and his clients well: plan and organize your work – good planning at the start saves money in the end; always work lean – reduce costs wherever possible while maintaining the quality of your work; and always strive for excellence in everything you do – it’s the only way to achieve success.
