Tom Moore
CEO
Tom Moore has been the CEO of Associated Mechanical since 2008.
A business graduate from Indiana University, he learned the industry through hands-on experience in the family business, R.T. Moore Mechanical Contractors in Indianapolis. He spent summers during high school and college working in the field as a plumber, earned his Journeyman’s license at the age of 20—and then went on to be an instructor at the local plumbing apprenticeship school.
Moore worked his way up the ranks of his family’s company, eventually becoming COO. During his tenure, the company grew from 100 to 250 employees, serving customers in 14 states.
In 2007 Moore and his family moved to Minnesota, establishing a standalone mechanical contracting firm that is now owned and headed by his wife. In 2008 he purchased Associated Mechanical and became the CEO. Under Moore’s leadership the company has grown from 50 employees to over 200 at its Shakopee headquarters. And the company’s initial focus on multi-family residential and commercial work has expanded to include the medical and industrial construction markets.
The business principals Moore practices today are the same as those learned as a young man: plan and organize your work—good planning at the start saves money in the end; work lean—reduce costs wherever possible while maintaining the quality of your work; and always strive for excellence in everything you do.
When it comes to the team, Moore feels a company is only as good as its people. This means it’s important to care about people, recognize a job well done and always say thank you. He also believes that education, top-down support and a family-like work environment help keep turnover to a minimum.
Outside of work family is very important to Moore. He is an avid traveler and enjoys time spent in warm climates.
