Seasonal Equipment Checks That Pay Off: Boilers, Furnaces, and Coil Cleaning

As the seasons change, your building’s mechanical systems work hard to keep operations running smoothly. At Associated Mechanical Contractors, we know that a little proactive maintenance goes a long way toward avoiding costly downtime, improving efficiency, and extending the life of your equipment.

Here are three seasonal service checks we recommend every facility put on the calendar:

1. Boiler Tune-Ups and Checks

When the temperature drops, your boiler quickly becomes one of the most critical systems in your facility. A seasonal tune-up ensures:

Peak efficiency: Clean burners and properly calibrated controls reduce fuel consumption and operating costs
Safety: Checking safety valves, pressure controls, and venting helps prevent dangerous malfunctions
Reliability: Catching wear or small issues before they escalate avoids emergency repairs when you need heat most

2. Furnace Checks

Even if your system seems to be running fine, a furnace check before heavy use is key. Our technicians look for:

– Dirty filters or blockages that strain the system
– Ignition or flame sensor issues that can cause breakdowns
– Airflow imbalances that make certain spaces too hot or too cold

The result is a system that delivers consistent, comfortable heating all season long.

3. The Overlooked MVP: Final Coil Cleaning in the Fall

One of our favorite tips is scheduling a final coil cleaning in the fall. Why? Because the spring often sneaks up with that one hot week before your official cooling-season tune-up. A clean coil ensures:

– Better airflow and cooling capacity when you suddenly need it
– Reduced energy usage from a system that isn’t overworking
– Less wear on compressors and fans, extending equipment life

Think of it as setting your cooling equipment up for success before the rush of spring.
